After spending a few hours in Singapore Airlines’ delightful new SilverKris Lounge, we were off to gate A10 to take our flight to Frankfurt. This is SQ26. The total route is Singapore to Frankfurt to New York JFK. There is a nonstop option that goes directly to JFK, but this one is a designed one-stop journey. We will be flying both legs and reviewing both. But for now, let’s fly to Frankfurt.

Here’s the boarding order for Singapore airlines leading up to Business class:

  • Pre-boarding for those with disabilities or needing extra time
  • First class and PPS Solitaire Members
  • Business Class and PPS Club Members

Eventually, I made my way over to 11K, the first business class seat on the aircraft’s right side.

The entire business class cabin is pretty sizable, occupying the entire space from the upper deck boarding door to the back of the upper deck.

Once I sat down, a crew came around with a tray of orange juice and champagne, and I chose the latter.

The crew had also come around asking if we had a chance to take a look at the menu and what we wanted for the main course, and I went with the Lamb Biriyani. Here’s the full menu that was already waiting for us at out seat.

Singapore’s menu truly has it all. A good food selection, beverages, hard alcohol, wines, cocktails, teas, coffees, etc. An astute eye will have observed that the menu says “Singapore to London” even though we are flying to Frankfurt. It’s safe to assume that the same food items are served on both routes. However, on the next flight, we will see that we get a proper menu for Singapore to Frankfurt to New York.

Singapore’s A380 business class has been around for a while now, but it’s still quite spacious, roomy, and private compared to other carriers. The seat itself is a little hard, but a very comfortable bed when it comes to sleeping. Unlike Singapore’s 777-300ER business class, where the seat physically turns over to become a bed, this one reclines into a bed with the push of a button like most other business class seats.

The side console was spacious and had a small circular depression where drinks could be placed. Though the surface is still glossy enough that I wouldn’t want to hold drinks here during turbulent skies.

There was also a conveniently placed elbow rest on both sides of the seat that could be deployed at any time,

A cosmetic side mirror could be opened.

Off the corner of my shoulder was an adjustable reading light as well

A lightweight coat hangar was also available at your disposal.

Because this was a bulkhead seat, which I highly recommend, you have some extra space. The leather side seat is a sort of gift you get, and behind that is a storage space where the menu, a water bottle, and some headphones can be found. This, all seats have.

side of seat

There was also a blanket, pillow, and mattress topper provided in its original packaging. This is hardly the most premium or space-efficient way of presenting this, but that’s not a big deal. Until I sleep, I always toss all of these things overhead.

bedding

There as also a credit card reader, I’m not quite sure why anyone would need that but here it was anyways. And the panel behind that doesn’t normally look like that. There is usually a cover though it was broken as I sat in my seat. This is also where you can find the power port.

We were also given a pair of eyeshares, socks, and slippers. These essentially allow you to keep your socks and shoes fresh for a full 14 hours, which is great.

slippers, socks, and eyemask

There was a a basic amenity kit that provided a face cream, face mist and a chapstick. Now one might be wondering where some other things are, like a toothbrush, comb, etc. Those can be found in the lavatory and we’ll have a look at that in a bit.

The captain eventually made his holiday-themed welcome announcements and informed us we would have a 13-hour 23-minute flight to Frankfurt this evening.

Eventually we began our push back and taxi to runway 2L for departure.

Eventually, we began a powerful thrust and a long takeoff roll. The climb out was choppy but this plane never fails to smoothen out that turbulence as best it can.

Wifi was accessible and complimentary for all first and business class passengers and certain elite members as seen below.

The crew were lazer fast with their service. This was great as it allowed passengers to get to sleep quickly, but it sure made my life difficult as I couldn’t even take notes on this flight as fast as they came with the next item.

They brought our drinks along with some packaged nuts shortly.

Alspritzer

This is an alspritzer. It’s a very basic mix of vodka, apple juice, and 7up. But I always get this whenever I fly Singapore Airlines. Growing up I used to have the “fruit spritzer” a lot, which is the non-alcoholic version of this. Today I believe it’s called the Apple Bliss or something like that. I don’t have this anywhere else, but basically, it’s a sort of taste association that I know I’m flying Singapore Airlines whenever I’m having this drink. It was a fun part of my childhood.

Then the crew set out tray and brought out the appetizer which was a duck and goose liver.

Now I’m not a fan of foie gras or anything that resembles the texture and this reminded me very much of that. It was relatively ok, and I managed to finish, but I didn’t enjoy the texture. That’s not to say it wasn’t a good dish, and it probably was. However, it wasn’t for my taste. I am certain others enjoyed it far more than I did

The crew also came around with a warm bread basket and I chose the garlic bread which was warm and soft.

The main course was a delicious lamb biriyani. The lamb was quite flavorful despite being in the air and had a good spice to it. The rice was also pretty fragrant on its own.

Lamb Biriyani + pappad

A nice side of Koshimbir was also served to probably cool down the palette after a hot, but flavorful biriyani.

Koshimbir

Dessert was a smooth, creamy Christmas cake. Even though the cake was creamy, it had a nice crunchy base to accompany it. Overall, this was a great dessert.

I also asked for the cheese plate which was much bigger than what I expected to be.

Overall, The meal was excellent across the board, and I would gladly repeat it.

After allowing my food to digest for a bit, a crew found me and turned my seat into a bed, which was nice.

After what was an early start to my day, this bed looked incredibly inviting.

Remember earlier how I said we’d have a look at toiletries in the bathroom? Now’s that time.

In the lavatories themselves, you’d find everything you are looking for, from toothbrush & toothpaste to shaver and shaving cream.

more toiletries

At this point, I could not properly keep my eyes open, so I went straight to bed and slept for a marvelous 6.5 uninterrupted hours. I consider that excellent sleep on the ground, let alone 40,000 feet in the air.

Once I woke up, I asked the crew for some peppermint tea and they gladly brought some.

We were also passing perfectly over Istanbul around this time.

About 30 minutes before breakfast, the crew started taking orders for what we wanted and set the tray table up shortly after.

The bread basket came around first, and it was breakfast time, so I was going for the croissant. I opted for one of those, and the crew gave me two instead. They were warm, soft, flaky, and delicious.

Then was a plate of fruits, which was refreshing.

After that the crew brought a bowl of muesli which was also light and refreshing.

And then we get to the main course. This one was interesting. Breakfast was a choice of crepes, eggs, or nasi lemak, and I went with nasi lemak. It was one of the best dishes I have ever had on a plane—except that it was so very spicy for a morning meal. Don’t get me wrong—I love spicy food and will happily eat it for any other meal. However, I am not looking to wake up from sleep at 6AM and have the spiciest nasi lemak there was. That aside, it was a very fragrant, flavorful, and just simply yummy meal all around.

Nasi Lemak

After that, I had some peppermint tea to wind down breakfast. This was also difficult to drink since the spice of the nasi lemak was still on my tongue and made the tea feel hotter than it was.

Eventually we began our descent into Frankfurt. This flight was during the winter months so even though it was roughly 6:15 AM, there was still not a sign of light anywhere in the area.

We eventually touched down and had a quick taxi to gate B46 where we would be parking for the short layover.

The D and E pier had some planes that seemed to have already arrived earlier than us.

It goes without saying Singapore Airlines is one of the most consistent experiences in the sky and it will always be my favorite airline on this planet for as long as they continue to maintain this level of consistency. The seat is great and spacious, and you can recline it yourself as opposed to the old design. The food was delicious, although next time I would probably opt for a simpler breakfast item and not the spicy surprise I had. The amenities provided are more than sufficient enough for the 14 hour flight, and lastly, the crew was excellent and this is where I thinkĀ  Singapore Airlines takes the cake. Many airlines have all other aspects good, but few have the consistently friendly and polished crew that Singapore Airlines had.
