Introduction & Location
Nuuk is a very small city and, as such, there are very few hotels in the city to begin with. However, Hotel Hans Egede is likely to be your best choice. Here’s a random map I found online, and you can see how central Hotel Hans Egede is.

Here are some pictures that I took from the hotel and what you see below is essentially “Downtown Nuuk” and its right in the city center:

Lobby and Check in Area
The hotel had a nice spacious lobby area where you can even sit and wait if there’s a check-in line.
There were also some chairs lined up along the window where you could sit and have some coffee if you wanted to. There’s a ground-floor cafe that you can take advantage of. Around the corner, there’s another seating area if you’d like more comfortable seating.
Another neat feature is that the hotel also offers baggage storage. So let’s say you’ve arrived but your room isn’t ready yet, or you need to check out but you aren’t leaving the area yet. That’s no problem at all the property will hold on to your luggage.
Hotel Rooms
The hallways were simple and clean and the floors were carpet.

Now I know…believe me, I know….rolling a bag on carpet can be a pain. But thankfully, this carpet is pretty thin so it wasn’t too much effort to roll a bag around here.

During my stay I got to stay in 2 different kinds of rooms. One was a Superior Deluxe Double Room Polar Cabin, and the other was a standard single room. We’ll take a look at both of these.
Polar Superior Deluxe Double Room
Hotel Hans Egede features a “Polar” concept for select rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors, offering upgraded amenities and enhanced views. The door to my room on the 4th floor had a friendly polar bear on the left side to designate the room.

Room Features
The room is fairly spacious and has most things that you’d expect from a major hotel in a more well traveled country.

The bed was plenty big and had room for 2 people.

There were side tables on both side that featured a lamp and a European charger.

Back by the door there were plenty of hangars, a safe, and a few other storage compartments along with another charging port. One of the drawers had a bible, the other had nothing.
Next to the bed, there was a basic chaise lounge with a table.

The desk was simple but very functional. There were no power ports underneath the table, but rather behind the phone. There was also a coffee machine for anyone wanting to drink some coffee.
The bathroom was a little on the smaller side, but still very functional. There was a soap bottle that you can squeeze and it would dispense soap.
Polar Amenities
When you have a Polar Class booking, you also get some additional amenities. For starters, you get this really functional water bottle. I used it all around Nuuk and even took it back to the US with me. You also get a glass bowl of mixed nuts. Something to be mindful of in case of any allergies.

You also get bath robes and slippers, both of which proved useful when I did my polar plunge.

Here’s a card that I found in the room that essentially dictates what are all the amenities you get with a Polar Class Room

Single Room

This room interestingly, did not have a phone on the desk like the other room, but that also means the power port on top of the desk is unobstructed.

The closet was also pretty much the same as the other room. I would say this is very well equipped.

There was also a chair + table to relax in.

The bathroom was in a slightly different arrangement, but had everything you’d need. Interestingly, I almost felt as if this bathroom had a little bit more space to work with compared to the other room I stayed in.

This room’s view was pretty meh compared to the Polar Class room I had, but its not a big deal.

Dining
This hotel isn’t just a hotel. It also has a few different dining options. There is a bar on the top floor, a lunch spot, which is one of the top-rated Greenlandic Restaurants in all of Greenland, and then a steakhouse for dinner.

Bar
The top floor has a bar with a decent number of seats and a decent selection of drinks as well.

The view was pretty nice too.

Sarfalik Restaurant
This restaurant, as far as I can remember, is only open during lunch hours, so I would use that time to visit this place.

This has been rated one of the top Greenlandic restaurants in the country and I can stand by that. The fish was so fresh and the land meats were also really enjoyable. I could easily have eaten multiple of these if my stomach allowed it.

The setting of the restaurant was also pretty nice.

A Hereford Beefstouw
The 3rd restaurant in this hotel is a steakhouse, and I would say its also notable because its one of very, very, very few restaurants in Nuuk open after 9PM. This is also the same venue where breakfast is, but more on that in a later section.

The menu has all kinds of meats, including normal beef, Muskox, Reindeer.

Breakfast
Breakfast is held in the same room as the steakhouse. As soon as they close up shop in the steakhouse, they bring out the plates and dishes for breakfast. Here are the offerings for breakfast when I was there. It was honestly pretty good.

Final Thoughts
Hotel Hans Egede carries a classic minimalistic design like a lot of other Scandinavian countries, but I think the offerings are really good for what you’d otherwise expect in a hotel in Greenland. The rooms were clean, they came with most major amenities I’d want in any major hotel in a more populated country. The restaurants were all pretty good, the bar was good. Breakfast was included for everyone and the offerings were pretty nutritious and filling as well so I definitely cannot complain.
This hotel can be on the more expensive side, but I would say it is also probably the most complete hotel in all of Greenland, and the most central hotel in Nuuk. Next time I come back to Nuuk, I would absolutely stay here again
