Review: Lufthansa Lounge Detroit DTW

Lufthansa has a small lounge in Detroit located at the lower end of the D concourse at the Evans Terminal. It’s close to the corridor that takes you to gates D1-D6.

Once you see it, it has the unmistakable Lufthansa lounge design.

Access Requirements

This lounge has standard and interesting lounge requirements. So let’s get it out of the way. The following passengers can access the lounge at any time of the day:

  • Star Alliance Business Class Passengers
  • Star Alliance First Class Passengers (+1 guest on the same flight but United Domestic First gets no guests)
  • Star Alliance Gold Passengers flying in Economy (+1 guest on the same flight)
  • Passengers with Priority Pass traveling on Lufthansa Airlines

This lounge can be accessed by Priority Pass; however, during the hours of the Lufthansa flight, this lounge is not accessible with Priority Pass. On my particular day, that fell between 12-4pm. So during that window, if you were trying to access this lounge with Priority Pass and you weren’t flying Lufthansa, you wouldn’t be allowed inside.

Seating

So this lounge is interesting. Lufthansa lounges are known for having a business class section which is accessible to Business class travelers, and then a nicer Senator section for passengers who are Star Alliance Gold  and above. This lounge very much looks like it follows that format because it has 2 distinguished sections, but they don’t follow that format anymore. Both sides are accessible by everyone. The drinks are on the former senator side of the lounge while the food is on the former business class side of the lounge.

one side

While I didn’t ask the lounge agent which side used to be which, it was very obvious from the classic Lufthansa furniture.

There was a high top table as well with power ports. I would’ve liked a little bit more back support from the chair but I guess this forces you to try to have good posture.

There was a variety of cozy couches and individual chairs.

There were more kinds of seating in other places as well. Power ports were decently distributed throughout the lounge.

Now there was more seating on the other side, which was the business class side.

As you can see, the seating is much more simplistic with fewer comfortable options. It’s basically just a bunch of tables with one long booth, a long table and some high-top seating.

The high-top tables faced out the window, but shutters covered the windows to prevent the sun from shining through.

Spread out throughout the high-top tables were power ports and USB ports to charge your devices.

The booth style seating was probably the most comfortable chair I would consider picking on this side of the lounge.

The back of the lounge also had this super long table seating.

Food & Drinks

So the way the food and drinks are distributed is that they have all the food items on the right side lounge which is the ex-business class side. Then there’s all the drinks which are on the ex-senator side.

Food

The food options were honestly quite humble.

veggies

On ice they had vegetables, appls, and some pasta salad and arugula salad.

They also had the standard Mexican trio offering with sour cream, salsa, and peppers. I didn’t see any chips around, so I wasn’t quite sure what exactly I was supposed to have this with.

There was also some crackers that were offered alongside butter. I didn’t quite understand that combination.

crackers + butter

I lied. There was one fridge for drinks in the ex-business class side of the lounge, but it was just beers, juices, and water.

drinks

On a separate stand there were some hot food options as listed below.

Hot food items

There were a few different kinds of hot foods. We had 2 soup options and some buffet hot items.

soup

I actually had some of the Thai chicken curry with rice, and I definitely didn’t get any chicken but the curry itself was quite nice.

soup

There was some croutons served on the side along with the soup.

The hot food items were very very basic.

Back on the other side of the lounge you had the same fridge in the ex-business side of the lounge.

Then there was a bar area with sufficient enough selections.

bar

There was a comprehensive list of items available from the bar.

There were some standard hard alcohol drinks.

Then there were 3 reds and then 3 white wines that were on ice.

I forgot to get the red wines but here are the white wines for your perusal:

Riesling
chardonnay
pinot grigio

Then there was a water dispenser as well as room for coffee creamers and straws.

condiments

Naturally, there was a big coffee machine that could make a lot of different drinks. I don’t drink coffee so I can’t speak to all the choices here but they were plentiful.

The lounge also had a helpful departure board so you could see all the star alliance lounges in the area.

There were also newspapers with today’s dated papers to offer of the New York Times.

There were also individual male and female restrooms on both sides of the lounge. Unfortunately there are no showers in this lounge.

Overall, this lounge is simple, has the bare minimums, and is a satisfactory spot to spend some time before your flight. There’s drink options, a few hot and cold food options, a decent variety of seating, and some views. I wouldn’t dedicate a long time here, but not a bad place to get some work done if needed.
